More October 21, 1972 Mementos

 






This post takes a closer look at three details from Gary & DiAnn's wedding 50 years ago tomorrow: a scan of their wedding invitation, as well as two pages of DiAnn's notes from her personal wedding book, Click on each photo for a larger view.

DiAnn's handwritten notes may have actually been made in 1975, the date she notes in the second scan. She notes details likc 2 baskets of pink and white mums for decorations. Sister Doris was apparently the organist for the service, with her cousin Lu Ann Wenthold serving as the solosity, singing "The Wedding Prayer. Host & hostesses were Carl & Sally Svenson and Jim & Mary Jane Suchan.

On the third scan, DiAnn notes that her beloved cousin Lavonne Frana was the guest book registrar, and that the couple's godmothers, Bea Dempsey and Marie Frana cut the stunning wedding cake. 

DiAnn notes that the Catholic Daughters prepared a very good dinner of  punch & crackers, roast beef, mashed potatoes and gravy, buttered peas and carrots, relishes, fruit salad, rolls and kolaches. She goes on to note the light and dark pink decor that enhanced the special day 50 years ago.

For DiAnn's 60th birthday surprise 18 years ago today, the last letter in her memory book was from her husband Gary, pictured above. It reads: August 18, 2003 Memories shared with DiAnn - My wife - HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU! Now do you see why I've been asking you about how old you are this year? Do you remember that XXX bar we accidentally went into when we were trying to give Irv and Kathy a moment alone? The trip we took to Nashville was also something to remember, especially seeing the Grand Ole Opry - a very long trip in a short time. Mark Your 2021 Nordic Fest Calendar

They are now correct below.  The photo above is DiAnn & Gary Svenson having fun at the 2001 Nordic Fest as Ole & Lena.  At the 2021 Nordic Fest, the beautiful lives of Gary & DiAnn Svenson will be honored through authentic Scandinavian music at Vesterheim National Norwegian-American Museum.  This music continues the authenticity focus that started in advance of the first Nordic Fest in 1967 when Gary and his fellow Jaycees partnered with Dr. Marion and Lila Nelson, Phyllis Leseth, Helga Lund Algyr and more to create the first Nordic Fest.
