Historic Christmas Wishes



This pictured Christmas card was given no later than 1934 by Sverre Svenson to his girlfriend Marie Weflen. Marie became Sverre's wife in January 1935. Sverre and Marie had four sons - Carl, David, Gary and Rich. The card was among several photo albums and scrapbook items belonging to Sverre and Marie discovered during the review of Gary & DiAnn's home, which was also Sverre and Marie's home first purchased in 1947 and later purchased by Gary after their passing. Carl now has the card, and a scan of it is shared here. Click on each scan for a closer look.

For DiAnn's 60th birthday surprise 18 years ago today, the last letter in her memory book was from her husband Gary, pictured above. It reads: August 18, 2003 Memories shared with DiAnn - My wife - HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU! Now do you see why I've been asking you about how old you are this year? Dawn and I have been working on this for a little while.  Guess I would have to start from the beginning with our trip to the State Fair to see Mr. Charley Pride with Irv and Kathy Schau. Do you remember that XXX bar we accidentally went into when we were trying to give Irv and Kathy a moment alone? The trip we took to Nashville was also something to remember, especially seeing the Grand Ole Opry - a very long trip in a short time. More October 21, 1972 Mementos

  This post takes a closer look at three details from Gary & DiAnn's wedding 50 years ago tomorrow: a scan of their wedding invitation, as well as two pages of DiAnn's notes from her personal wedding book, Click on each photo for a larger view. DiAnn's handwritten notes may have actually been made in 1975, the date she notes in the second scan. She notes details likc 2 baskets of pink and white mums for decorations. Sister Doris was apparently the organist for the service, with her cousin Lu Ann Wenthold serving as the solosity, singing "The Wedding Prayer. Host & hostesses were Carl & Sally Svenson and Jim & Mary Jane Suchan. They are now correct below.  The photo above is DiAnn & Gary Svenson having fun at the 2001 Nordic Fest as Ole & Lena.  At the 2021 Nordic Fest, the beautiful lives of Gary & DiAnn Svenson will be honored through authentic Scandinavian music at Vesterheim National Norwegian-American Museum.  This music continues the authenticity focus that started in advance of the first Nordic Fest in 1967 when Gary and his fellow Jaycees partnered with Dr. Marion and Lila Nelson, Phyllis Leseth, Helga Lund Algyr and more to create the first Nordic Fest.
