All Directions Point Norse to Decorah for This Week's Nordic Fest

The 55th annual Nordic Fest gets underway this week in Decorah. If you haven't yet been, it's an awesome trip to make to connect with terrific people, enjoy tasty food, all in a non-commercial atmosphere dedicated the celebrating the deep Norwegian heritage in Decorah, of which Vesterheim plays an integral role, just as it has since the first Nordic Fest in 1967.

Many readers of this blog know that Gary D. Svenson applied his firm belief in the Jaycee motto that "service to humanity is the best work of life" when he joined with his fellow Jaycees and the Vesterheim team to create Nordic Fest.

17 years ago, Gary passed away suddenly just before the 39th Nordic Fest. His family felt deeply moved to receive this plate from the Nordic Fest board and renowned Decorah rosemaler Sally Stromseth at the Fest's Opening Ceremonies less than a week after his funeral.

The inscription on the back reads "Given to the family of Gary Svenson in celebration of his many years of faithful service to Nordic Fes. With love, 2005 Nordic Fest Board."

You can plan your Nordic Fest visit with the help of the 2022 online program here. Hope to see you there!
